Monea Ionaș’s genealogical stone

In our museum’s patrimony, in the Lapidarium collection, it is preserved an interesting exhibit - a genealogical stone ordered in 1728, by the Greek-Catholic general vicar Ionaș Monea, a stone which represents his family’s genealogy.

The fortress has never been conquered through the force of arms and on one hand, this was due to its military capacity - emplacement, construction, and weapons -, and on the other hand

The history of the swans

In the inventory of Făgăraș Fortress from 1656, it was mentioned that on the defense ditch which surrounded the fortress were six swans which had as a daily ration, one rye bread.

In the writings about the fortress from one century ago, the existence of a mechanism of death, known as “The iron virgin” was recorded, mechanism brought in the 18th century
